What would posess someone to wear any shoe with high heels while driving? It seems extremely unsafe. I’ve seen more ladies step out of their cars with them on, and can’t figure out how they have any pedal feel.
Dad’s figaro for your time.

I imagine that the high heel wearing opponoughts are a small percentage of the total number of opponoughts.

Well Mythbusters tried it, and they couldn’t find any discernable differences.

That is a neat little car.
I presume they drive with the toe of their foot where the shoe isn’t as thick.
Girls are magic.
That is my official explanation.

I totally expect that, I figured someone knows someone who wears them, and would share the reasoning.

Sometimes they take them off while driving and put them on just before they get out.

They can take them off while driving, maybe put on a pair of flats just for driving. That’s what my mum used to do.

My wife takes them off while driving.

Most that I know take them off and drive barefoot.

I for some reason have not seen that episode.

Watch Canada’s worst driver, you’ll see why it’s harder.

My wife drives with them on.
Apart from the holes in the carpet, no complaints from me. And from her, the complaints are that if she drives for over half an hour it gets very tiring because of the position so she takes them off. The pedal feel however is about the same as her boots, she says. Which is probably the same feel I get when I drive with boots.

I was watching one of the seasons with the girls who where stubborn about that.

Also, it might depend on the type of heel. Heels with flat fronts shouldn’t really have any discernible feel difference from normal shoes - in fact it might be better. Clunky shoes such as platforms or wedges on the other hand...

The lady I had seen step out of her mazda3 had on 4 inch heels.

Most people drive automatic nowadays. Pedal feel isn’t really a huge priority, and you can use your toe and pivot about the heel on the mat. Actually not too bad, honestly, especially if you have small feet and are already used to less than ideal foot position.
Also, most heels are easy to kick off and drive barefoot, and then slide back on before getting out.
The more you know!

Once again I’m late to the “yamahog made a joke” figuring out party. I just now got the Guy reference.
I’ve never worn heels and driven but I did win $20 once for walking in (4”?) heels across a shag carpet room without stumbling or falling.

“Most people drive automatic nowadays”
Not outside North America they don’t!

The heels are on the back, but the toe area can either be flat like so:
Or a thick platform/wedge, typically called “pumps,” like so:
Obviously the flat toed ones will be better for driving, and most people will kick off their pumps to drive. About the same pedal feel as work boots, IMO.

If I’m driving my car, which is stick, I’ll take them off and drive barefoot or with some flats I brought along. If I’m driving an automatic, I’ll leave them on. I could probably get to the level of wearing them while driving stick, but I rarely wear them. No one needs me to be 6’4 that often.

Well, I don’t drive with my heel on the pedal, so it’s never made any difference. It feels exactly the same as driving in flats.

“No one needs me to be 6’4 that often.”
Not many people would wear heels when they’re, what, 6’ without them!
Mind you one of my local bank assistant managers is and does. She can hardly get through the door without ducking.

Yeah, I’m a smudge under 6’ barefoot. It depends what I’m doing and who I’m with... At work, fair game, but they can hurt after awhile and the wood floor at work is slippery. So I don't wear them often. For fun, it depends what I'm doing and who I'm with. I used to have a lot of guy friends who were taller than me, so I didn't mind wearing heels around them. Lately they all are the same height as me or a little shorter, and I feel weird being so much taller than them. I know that shouldn't matter, but it does.

Once you get used to the whole “basically everything you’re socially expected to do to look presentable is uncomfortable” thing, what’s a little ankle pain?
Kinda joking, but my SO still gets freaked out watching me do my eye makeup every morning. Apparently I’m the weird one having become immune to so many pokey things so close to my eyes.

Contact lenses will do the same.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 13:28 |

No? I’m trying to figure out how it would. It’s not like my heel would be reaching the floor, anyway, even though I scoot my seat up as far as I can. Maybe if I had longer legs, I might have more problems. Like, I’m not particularly short at 5’5”, but there is plenty of room for the heels of my shoes to fit without any ankle contortions.

Oh, yeah, I’ve driven exclusively automatics for longer than I’ve worn heels, thanks to my cripple arm. Didn’t think about that as a factor.
